Verplicht deeltijds werken voor zorgpersoneel is totaal absurd

Volgens een artikel in het Nieuwsblad zijn er veel personeelsleden in de zorg die verplicht deeltijds moeten werken, terwijl ze zelf graag voltijds aan de slag willen. “Het is totaal absurd dat in een sector waar zo’n tekort aan personeel is men niet alle beschikbare handen aan het werk zet”, zegt Vlaams Parlementslid Immanuel De Reuse. “Wie meer wil werken, moet dit ook kunnen.”
De Dag van de Zorg afgelopen zondag diende niet alleen om het zorgpersoneel in de bloemetjes te zetten, maar ook om het nijpende personeelstekort aan te klagen. De bedoeling van de opendeurdag was dan ook om mensen die geïnteresseerd zijn in een job als zorgverlener de kans te bieden om hier meer over te weten te komen. Volgens het Nieuwsblad werkt ruim zestig procent van de zorgverleners in de woonzorgcentra deeltijds. Velen van hen zouden echter graag voltijds willen werken, maar mogen dit niet.
“Het is onbegrijpelijk dat in een sector waar zo gesmeekt wordt om meer personeelsleden, sommige mensen verplicht deeltijds moeten werken”, vindt De Reuse. “Als we een job in de zorgsector aantrekkelijker willen maken, moeten de loon- en arbeidsvoorwaarden ook aantrekkelijk zijn.”

Margot Cloet, de topvrouw van Zorgnet-Icuro, zegt dat de woonzorgcentra met hun complexe werkplanningen genoodzaakt worden om deeltijdse contracten aan te bieden. Volgens haar is dit nodig om flexibel te zijn en de piekmomenten op te kunnen vangen en kunnen ze enkel meer werkuren geven als er ook meer personeel ingezet mag worden.
“Voor de meeste zorgverleners is het financieel gewoon niet haalbaar om met een deeltijds loon rond te komen. Om niet nog meer mensen te verliezen, moeten we hen de kans geven om meer te werken”, aldus De Reuse. “Het zou hiernaast fiscaal ook mogelijk moeten zijn om zelfs meer dan 36 uur per week te werken. Zo maken we de job aantrekkelijk en kunnen we het personeelstekort oplossen.”
